Blizzard Drops Overwatch League Gear, Announces In-Game Skins

by - 6 years ago

Preseason matches for the Overwatch League start this week and Blizzard announced earlier today that official league merchandise will be available on the Blizzard Gear Store beginning Dec 6th at 10 a.m. PST, the same day the initial preseason matches take place.

Wednesday will be the first day fans will be able to get their hands on official shirts, New Era hats, jackets and other gear from each of the league’s 12 teams. There’s been speculation about what kind of merchandise would be available since the league was announced, especially after pictures from the player summit emerged showing different kinds of gear being worn by players.

The regular season starts Jan. 10 and chances are there will be even more swag announced before then with teams like the LA Gladiators teasing branded ugly sweaters for the holidays.

On Monday Overwatch League Commissioner Nate Nanzer provided additional details on an announcement made first at Blizzcon about Overwatch League in-game skins. Starting in early 2018 home team uniforms for all inaugural teams will be added to the game as official Overwatch League skins.

Fans will be able to acquire these skins through the use of a new in-game currency called “League Tokens.” Using these tokens will also provide monetary support for teams in the league.

Nanzer also stated that anyone who logs into Overwatch during the first month after rolling out the “League Token” system will receive enough tokens to purchase their first Overwatch League Jersey.

With twenty six heroes in Overwatch and 12 teams competing in the inaugural season there are 312 different team skin/hero combinations for players to choose from. Which will you choose?
