OVERHYPE: New Hero Teases Continue

by - 7 years ago

A new teaser this morning on the Overwatch twitter feed continues our hype train.

After earlier reports this week that Efi Oladele is not the next hero, a lot of people are back to square one in terms of who our next combatant is going to be. A couple things to note about this image, however:

  • The image credit at the bottom is Efi’s name, suggesting she was herself on the scene in the aftermath of the attack. There’s a “Peter Parker capturing exclusive photos of Spider-man” air to this, if you catch my meaning.
  • The OR15 defense bots were referenced in Efi’s reveal interview, and this drives home that they are the defense force for the city of Numbani. A city predicated on harmony between omnics and humans seems like the perfect location for a roboticized police force, though it does invite more questions about the actual differences between robots and the omnics.
  • The news ticker at the bottom gleefully cuts out before it mentions what eyewitnesses reported, but the note that no civilians were injured lends a hint that whoever was there isn’t villainous.
  • The fact that one of the destroyed OR15s is driven into the wall could mean a lot of things, but plenty of folks are going to read the big circular indentation as an indicator of Doomfist.

Since we’ve also learned that Team 4 will not be at PAX East in a few weeks, there’s no reason to think we’ll have to wait for this reveal to play out there. Similar to past reveals, we can probably expect the breadcrumbs to continue next week.

In the meantime, stay tuned.
