Datamined Overwatch Brawls

by - 8 years ago

When the patch was released last night players discovered a new game mode added to the Overwatch menu: Brawls.

Much like the Weekly Brawls available in Hearthstone, Overwatch Brawls will be a rotating weekly game mode with different rules each week. During the testing phase, the game mode will change daily so that each mode can be tested.

A list of upcoming Brawls was datamined from the patch files:
Super Shimada Bros.: Genji/Hanzo only in Hanamura
Mystery Heroes: On death you will respawn as a randomly selected hero
Justice Rains from Above: Pharah vs Mercy
Arcade: More health, faster ability and ultimate cooldowns, faster respawn
We’re All Soldiers Now: Soldier: 76 only
High Noon: Headshots with McCree only on Route 66
Show Your Support: Support heroes only, max of 2 of each hero per team
Tanks a Lot: Tank heroes only, max of 2 of each hero per team
Overly Defensive: Defense heroes only, limit of 2 of each per team
Highly Offensive: Offense heroes only, limit of 2 of each per team
Head’s Up: McCree, Genji, Hanzo, Widowmaker, headshots only
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: McCree, Reaper, and Roadhog
MOBA-watch: Unique heroes per team, no switching
Girl Power: Female heroes only

Along with the existing brawls, I came up with a couple I thought might be interesting as well.

Bare-knuckle Brawl: No weapons/special abilities, only melee attacks allowed
The Quick & the Dead: McCree vs McCree in a best of 5 quick-draw contest
Planet of the Apes Scientists: All Winstons
Going to that Zen Place: All Zenyatta
Turret Takedown: Bastion/Torbjorn/Symmetra only
DIEDIEDIE: Reaper only with quick ultimate charging
Too Tired: Junkrat’s Ultimate has rapid charging

Much like the weekly Hearthstone Brawls, these games don’t work as permanent game types. The first day of testing included the Super Shimada Bros. brawl and, while it was a fun diversion and good opportunity to play two heroes I wouldn’t typically play, the enjoyment can wear out quickly given the limited hero and map selection.

I’m very interested to see what else the Overwatch team can come up with to surprise players as we move forward in the testing phases and into the launch.

Let us know what Brawls you’d be interested in playing in the comments!
