Cowboy McCree and Russian Zarya Revealed at PAX East

JR is on the floor at PAX East and he’s been able to get the latest information about Overwatch first hand, along with some nice pictures.

There are two new playable heroes in the Overwatch demos at Pax East. Zarya is a buff Russian Female with Pink Hair with a Particle Cannon for a main weapon and a Protective Barrier. Her Ultimate ability seems to be a gravitation ball similar to what Gazlowe has in Heroes of the Storm.

We also have McCree the Cowboy, his abilities are a Combat Roll, a Flash Bang, and his ultimate is Deadeye which targets everyone in his vision with a red “x”.

First Impressions of McCree

McCree is a pistol-toting sheriff with many airs of Clint Eastwood’s character in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. So far, we’ve seen a couple of abilities demonstrated by McCree, including a combat roll and a flashbang to blind opponents. We’ve also seen his Ultimate, which is called Deadeye. Deadeye allows McCree to target everyone in his field of vision with a red X, and is guaranteed to hit all of those targets. No indication yet on what kind of damage it does.

First Impressions of Zarya

Zarya is a buff, Russian-looking lady with a pink mohawk who wields a heavy particle cannon as a weapon. She’s also got a barrier she can throw up, and her ultimate is a gravity bomb, similar to Gazlowe’s ability in Heroes of the Storm, which pulls struck enemies together into one spot.

We’re sure to get more information at the panel starting shortly, so keep it locked.

As mentioned before, Zarya’s Particle cannon is her primary weapon, which has an alt-fire mode that will drop an explosive charge for AoE damage. Her particle barrier is a mobile shield that translates damage taken to the shield into a damage and range enhancement for her particle cannon. She can also project the barrier on another ally, and get the same benefits for her particle cannon. Her ultimate ability not only pulls enemies into a single spot, but also deals damage to them while they’re trapped there for several seconds.

McCree’s Peacekeeper pistol has an alt-fire option to unload all six shots quickly. His combat roll also reloads the peacekeeper, and the flashbang’s stun causes whoever is afflicted to stop for a full second.
