Overwatch Press Event Incoming

It looks like the Overwatch team is preparing to release a bunch of new information on the game this upcoming week heading toward PAX East. Some Youtubers (Muselk, OneAmongstMany, Sips, and Star_) and some fansites (Overking) have been invited to Blizzard Headquarters this week. We’re not sure on the full list of attendees yet, these are just the ones we have seen talk about it.

It sounds like the event will be showing them the game and getting their hands on it and then will be able to interview the developers. We’re expecting quite a bit of new information to come out of this event.

This event sounds very similar to an event I was invited to at the end of June 2013 for Hearthstone. BlizzPro and a handful of other content creators (ranging from fansites and podcasts to Youtubers) attended an event at Blizzard Headquarters where we were shown Hearthstone and got to play it for a couple hours. We then were able to sit down with the developers in a room and talk about what we liked about the game and didn’t like and got to hear stories on the development of the game and got to also ask questions.

In a way, it’s sort of a focus group but also acts as a way to get some new information out there about the game. It also means that the Overwatch team is probably close to releasing Overwatch into beta. To put things in a timeline, it was roughly 6 weeks after our press event for Hearthstone that beta was released.

I fully expect this will be a similar timeline for Overwatch as they are gearing up for a big show at PAX East. Now, unfortunately we at BlizzPro weren’t invited to this upcoming press event this week. However, we will be at PAX East the following week and will be working hard to bring you the latest news for Overwatch in these next few weeks.

Beta for Blizzard’s first IP in over a decade is definitely on the horizon.
