New Title “Overwatch” Announced

Overwatch, an entirely new game and IP, was announced today at BlizzCon. Described as a “team-based, multiplayer shooter that is completely action-packed” a la game designer Jeffrey Kaplan, it appears to be a first-person action game including 12 playable characters with unique abilities and play styles.

Soldiers. Scientists. Adventurers. Oddities.
In a time of global crisis, an international task force of heroes banded together to restore peace to a war-torn world:
OVERWATCH.
It ended the crisis and helped to maintain peace in the decades that followed, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery. But after many years, Overwatch’s influence waned, and it was eventually disbanded.
Overwatch is gone… but the world still needs heroes.

Chris Metzen added at a BlizzCon panel that “many, many more characters” are planned for the game.
Release, Beta, and Other Details
The game is playable at BlizzCon all weekend. The game is definitely set up for consoles but is only available for PC play at the event. As far as release, Chris Metzen said that “[is] nearer than you think.” Beta has been confirmed for 2015.
